Identifying Fraud

Fraudulent Phone Calls

Protect yourself by always asking callers to identify themselves. Remember, we will never ask you to share sensitive information via phone when reaching out to you. Red Flags to watch out for:

  1. Caller is in a hurry and wants you to rush when completing instructions.
  2. You’re asked to provide sensitive, personal information.
  3. You are told that your account is delinquent when you know your payments are up to date.

Fraudulent Emails

Transactions and communications online can be managed through your Online Account. Remember: We will never email or call to ask for your account number, username, or Social Security Number. We will never ask you to put money on a prepaid card to get a Title Secured Loan. You will never be asked to prepay money to get an application approval for a Title Secured Loan.

Fraudulent Snail Mail

Unexpected notices with information that does not match what you know to be true about your account could be fraudulent. Always login to your Online Account, call our team, or stop by your nearest store if you receive a suspicious piece of mail. Never mail sensitive information or documents to anyone claiming to be TitleMax.

Fraudulent SMS

From time to time, we send SMS messages to our customers. We will never ask for personal information via SMS. As with any text you receive from a number that is new to you, proceed with caution. When in doubt, log in to your Online Account for more information or to make and manage payments.

Social Media Scam Prevention

Protect yourself on social media from bad actors. Unfortunately, criminals often utilize social media when attempting to access their victims. Keep in mind:

  • TitleMax has only ONE, official Facebook page, Instagram account, and X account.
  • TitleMax will NEVER ask for your security code, personal information, or payment information through social media.
  • TitleMax does not offer Title Secured Loan applications or accept payments through social media.
  • If anyone contacts you through social media claiming to be TitleMax, disengage and contact our Fraud Prevention Hotline at 1-844-95-FRAUD

  • Safeguard Information

    Do not share personal, sensitive information about your loan or account with anyone. Always keep statements secure. You are the best line of defense when it comes to protecting your information, but we are always in your corner to help. Utilizing your secure, Online Account is a great way to stay in the know while remaining secure.

  • Wi-Fi

    Use secure, private Wi-Fi when possible. Financial, sensitive information should always be shared via secure connection. Public Wi-Fi opens the door to would-be fraudsters, so stay vigilant and regularly utilize antivirus scans and software.

  • Passwords

    Regularly update your passwords using best practices. Never share your passwords or use easily accessible personal information like your name, address, or information that could be found via social media.

  • Disconnect

    Unfortunately, bad actors will attempt to pose as TitleMax from time to time. Watch for red flags and if you doubt the validity of the interaction, disconnect from the call, online session, or interaction. How can I identify a debt collection scam?
  • Caller threatens you in any way, demands immediate payment, or does not give you verifiable information about your Title Secured Loan such as the amount you owe.
  • Email is from the incorrect user domain- our domain is titlemax.com and all emails should come from @titlemax.com.
  • Account or “case” numbers are used that you are not familiar with.
  • A message or caller might be a scammer if they threaten to send information about you to your boss or family, threaten to take all of your salary or wages, use profanity or incorrect English/Spanish, or if they are overly aggressive and rude.
How can I identify a loan scam?
  • You will never be asked to load a prepaid card with money, purchase a money order, or send funds via wire transfer service in order to obtain a Title Secured Loan.
  • There are no “pre-paid fees” or “administrative fees” due in order to obtain a Title Secured Loan from TitleMax.
  • We will never ask for payment in advance, require prepaid cards as part of the approval process, require any funds or send you Title Secured Loan documents when you have not applied for funds.
How do I report suspected scams or fraud?
