Calling all money savers – we know it’s easy for your budget to get sidetracked when you think of all the items you need to get for the upcoming 4th of July holiday, but don’t throw your strategy out of the window to achieve your goals for the day. Freedom isn’t free, but you don’t have to splurge to celebrate Independence Day this year!
Party in the USA!
For the perfect 4th of July hotspot, look no further than your own backyard. Save on the expense of traveling over the holiday and opt to stay home instead. Even skipping festivities like the local fair or waterpark can save a substantial amount. Invite your friends over and set up water activities like a sprinkler and inflatable waterslide. If you want to take it a step further, host your own backyard games and include anything from Croquet to Flying Disc.
Red, White and Bargain Decor
You don’t have to splurge to have the most red, white and blue on the block! Start off with a trip to your local dollar store for tons of festive décor at a fraction of the cost of other options. Pick up everything from flags to tablecloths to patriotic pinwheels. Use 4th of July wrapping paper to create the perfect inexpensive backdrop, and supplement with coordinating streamers and balloons. Paint mason jars or a flower pot with stars and stripes to house your cutlery and napkins. Put your old jeans to use by crafting a denim pocket banner and pair with red and white ribbon.
Dynamite Dining
Gone are the days of being saddled with the entire cost of hosting and picking up the food tab. Host a pot luck with your friends and family to save on the cost (and work!) of providing all of the food. Most people like to bring something to a party anyways, so it’s a great way to get everybody involved. Keep it simple – burgers, brats, beans, and watermelon. For your contribution try these red, white and blueberry pops.
Fiery Festivities
As the day cools off, and night rolls in, it’s time for the highlight of the day – fireworks! If you can enjoy the festivities from your home, take advantage of it! If you don’t want to do the full-blown fireworks show, consider sparklers, which are pretty inexpensive. Spark-tacular! Another wallet-friendly option is to attend a free, local fireworks show in your town or nearby.
Blast Off!
No matter how small your budget is, you can spend this 4th of July celebrating with your closest friends and family. Not only will your guests enjoy the day, you will too with the knowledge that you kept your expenses at a minimum. Here’s to a successful and inexpensive red, white and blue bash!
